Relationship Counseling
Are you and your partner considering opening up your relationship? Is a breach of trust in the past still getting in the way of your connection even though it happened years ago? Are you struggling to articulate to your partner why coming out and introducing them to your family is so difficult? Are you finding that an infidelity seems to have permanently cast you as “the villain” in your daily life? We like to believe that relationships should be easy and that there is one “right” way to do it. But the reality is that modern relationships are very complicated and there is no one structure or set of values that will work for everyone.
My unique experiences as a counselor focusing on LGBTQI+ mental health as well as challenging sexual behaviors allows me to offer unique insights to those looking to strengthen or repair their relationships. Queer relationships can bring with them unique nuances around such topics as monogamy and intimacy. They can also face challenges related to social, familial, and cultural stressors. My personal and professional experience as a married gay man and adoptive father, as well as a counselor who has spent years supporting queer individuals allows me to see your relationship through objective and experienced eyes that are also culturally informed and understanding.
I also offer relationship counseling for those who want to strengthen connection, improve communication, and navigate challenges in the wake of infidelity, breaches of trust, or concerns about sexual mismatches. My guiding light in such complex situations is to remain nonjudgmental and open-minded. I believe in treating ALL partners with kindness and compassion and encouraging open and honest discussions about how (and if) to seek reconciliation. Whatever my clients decide, we can find a way to move forward with mutual respect and a focus on listening and being heard.
